2018 PRS McCarty 594 Wood Library Artist Grade Top w/Case

This 2018 PRS McCarty 594 Wood Library is in excellent used condition. There's a very slight swirl on the back of the body and extremely minor swirling on the top — the kind of thing you have to look for under the right light. Hardware shows very light tarnish, and there are slight finish marks on the face of the headstock from string ends. No dings or nicks anywhere on the guitar. The original gold tuner buttons have been swapped out for amber vintage-style buttons, but the originals are included in the case so you can put it back to factory at any time. Weight is 8 lbs 4 oz.

This one came from the PRS Wood Library program with an Artist Grade quilted maple top — three-dimensional figure with serious depth that shifts under light — paired with a flame maple neck and a Pattern Vintage carve. It also came with a full set of upgraded wood appointments: a wood back control cavity cover, wood toggle switch surround, and a wood truss rod cover with an inlaid PRS bird in green and gold. The standard plain covers are currently installed; the wood ones are included in the case.

The McCarty 594 is PRS's most direct conversation with the late-50s Gibson playbook — a 24.594" scale length (just shy of Gibson's 24.75"), a chunky asymmetrical Pattern Vintage neck carve, two volume and two tone controls in the classic four-knob layout, and 58/15 LT pickups designed to capture the warmth and clarity of a great PAF. The "LT" stands for low-turn, which is where the clarity comes from — these wind cleaner than a typical vintage humbucker, with single-coil voicings available via push/pull on each tone knob.

What separates this one from a standard 594 is the Wood Library spec. PRS's Wood Library is a small upstairs room at the factory where the best tonewood sets get pulled aside for limited runs and dealer-spec'd pieces. This guitar got an Artist Grade quilted maple top — the figure is dense, three-dimensional, and shifts dramatically under light — finished in Black Gold Burst, with a black-stained mahogany back and headstock that lets a beautifully figured flame maple neck pop against the dark body. Worth knowing: this is the double-cut McCarty 594, so you get full upper-fret access without the weight or balance compromise of the singlecut version. At 8 lbs 4 oz, it sits in a sweet spot for the model — substantial enough to deliver the sustain the 594 is known for, but not punishing on a strap.
